Primetime's top-rated sitcom “Young Sheldon” begins its seventh and final season on Thursday, February 15 (8 p.m.) on CBS. Series executive producer Steve Holland said there will be a lot of material covered in these final 14 episodes.
“Obviously, going into this last season, we knew where we wanted to leave our family and we knew there were some big milestones coming up, but [plot points] I wanted to make sure it was a hit,” Holland told the Post.
“There's not a huge storyline on this show, but this season there's a little bit more of a storyline.”
“Young Sheldon” was first released in 2017 and centers on Sheldon Cooper (Ian Armitage), a genius boy who grew up with his family in East Texas, and his parents George (Lance Barber) and Mary (Zoe Perry). My twin sister Missy (Reagan Revord), her brother Georgie (Montana Jordan), and her grandmother Connie (Annie Potts), also known as “Meemaw.”
This is a prequel to “The Big Bang Theory'' (2007-2019), with Jim Parsons playing the adult Sheldon and also narrating “Young Sheldon.'' It was co-produced by Chuck Lorre, who is also the co-creator of “The Big Bang Theory.'' Bang theory. ”
(Zoe Perry's mother, Laurie Metcalfe, played Sheldon's mother as an adult on “TBBT.”)
“We know fans of 'The Big Bang Theory' love these little Easter egg moments, so there's definitely going to be some of those,” Holland said. “There are some references to 'The Big Bang,' and I think people will be excited to see that and we're excited to include them.
“We knew this was our last season, so each of us had a personal list of things we wanted to acknowledge, mention, or hide in the background. I think Big Bang fans have a lot to look forward to.”
Primarily, the final 14 episodes of “Young Sheldon” (the series finale aired in May) focused on the Cooper family in a late '80s/early '90s worldview, with occasional nods to its CBS predecessor. represents.
“We knew this was the last season, so there were some big events that we definitely wanted to hit and some characters that we wanted to see again,” Holland said.
“That's difficult,” he said. “I know there's some speculation online about, 'Well, this has to happen,' but I'm not saying whether you're going to see it or not. What happened in life will also happen to him and they will be dealt with.
“I'm not going to ignore what happened,” he said.
Last season ended with a tornado that destroyed Meemaw's house, and Sheldon and Mary spent the summer studying in Germany.
Meanwhile, Georgie and her older fiancée Mandy (Emily Osment) have given birth to a daughter, Constance (named after Mandy's best friend Meemaw).
There has been talk of a spin-off series featuring these characters, but nothing is official yet.
“I say so. [a reported spinoff] Nothing changed what we were trying to do this season,” Holland said. “We intend to end this show as strong as possible, and future hypothetical shows did not influence any of the decisions we made this season.”
Holland said that an eighth season of “Young Sheldon” is not planned.
“We talked a lot about what the show would be like going forward. We know that Sheldon has a lot going on in his life, including going to Caltech when he was 14 years old. ,” Holland said. “But we love the show, we love the cast, we love these characters, and we started to feel like this was the right place for this show to end.
“It would have been rewarding for me personally if it could have lasted longer, but it wouldn’t have been fair to the show.
“We felt this was the perfect time to end this.”
