The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly made a decision regarding the departure of head coach Andy Reid.
Despite the Chiefs' thrilling victory in the Super Bowl on Sunday, rumors are swirling that the legend could consider leaving.
Why is “Andy Reid retiring” a trend?
There was speculation over the weekend that Reid, who led the Chiefs to their third Super Bowl, was planning to retire.
It was reported in January that Kansas City was preparing for the possibility that Reid would retire after the 2023 election cycle.
The two-time Super Bowl champion is 65 years old and has two years left on his current contract.
Quarterback Travis said he doesn't want to play for anyone but Andy Reid.
On the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, Kelce threatened to quit soccer if Reid retired.
“I’m a passionate guy,” Kelce said.
“I love Coach Reid, Coach Reid knows how much I love playing for him and how much I love being a product of his coaching career. .
“I'm not playing for anyone but Big Red. If he says quit this year, I'm going to walk out of there with him.”
What does Andy Reid say about retirement?
Andy Reid admitted he won't retire after leading the Kansas City Chiefs to Super Bowl III.
The veteran head coach then joked that he was mad at Bill Belichick because he was constantly being asked about retirement since he left the New England Patriots.
“I'm angry at Belichick and Pete because now I get asked all those questions,” Reid said.
Reid acknowledged his situation during Monday's post-Super Bowl press conference.
“I never thought about (retiring).” He said.
“People keep asking me. I've never really been there. I've never really thought about it.”
CBS reported earlier Sunday that Reid was “more likely” to receive an extension than leave the game.
“He has no intention of retiring,” a source told the outlet. “He's not being paid what he's supposed to be paid. There's a problem with the whole organization. Salary shouldn't be there all the way from top to bottom.”
The report also revealed that he intends to receive a new contract regardless of the outcome of the important match.
Reid signed a six-year contract extension after winning his first Super Bowl in 2020.
His $12 million annual salary ranks near 10th in the league among all head coaches.
