LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — There are less than 48 hours left until Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. For those who work behind the scenes, far from the glitz and glamor of the Big Game festivities, those days are numbered.
Two days before the big game, tight security is in place around the venue where the biggest football game of the year will be held. Some roads are closed to cars and pedestrians, leaving people like Mandingo Williams to take on the thankless task of directing traffic.
Williams worked 10-hour shifts and said “no” and “I can't do it” to many people. He works hard to make sure people in the area don't go to restricted areas. What is your advice for those commuting through the area during the big game weekend?
“You want to avoid Polaris, Hacienda and everything around the Super Bowl.” […] Because everything is shut down now,” Williams said.
People walking through the area noticed a heavy police presence and said authorities were putting it on “lockdown,” with some saying they had never seen security like this before. He pointed out that there was.
Still, Williams said no city is more ready to host a big game than Las Vegas.
“This is a great place to host any event,” he said. “This is Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world.”
65,000 fans are expected to flood into Allegiant Stadium on Sunday, with another 330,000 on the Las Vegas Strip.
