Raleigh, NC (WNCN) – The City of Raleigh is working to add permanent security to the Go Raleigh bus stop downtown.
The city of Raleigh and the privately-owned Capitol Police Force signed an agreement in December to provide security coverage for four months.
“I think our presence has significantly reduced crime and calls,” said Capitol Police Chief Dr. Roy Taylor.
Dr. Taylor said they are responsible for guarding Go Lorry's 20-hour operation, and told CBS 17 that a total of four armed guards work two shifts from 4 a.m. to midnight. Ta.
“We've seen a decrease in assaults and other crimes. We've also seen a decrease in property vandalism,” Taylor said.
The city's request for proposals calls for companies to provide armed and unarmed security services, $10 million in liability insurance, and special police officers. The deadline for bid submissions is February 29 at 3pm He said Dr Taylor said the company wanted to continue beyond the current four-month contract.
“We tried it as a temporary measure to see if it would work,” Taylor said.
The city says all applicants will be reviewed before a permanent company is selected. They state that the permanent company will receive a three-year contract with two (one-year) renewals. This means that selected companies can enter into this agreement for a total of five years.
