NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell traveled to Santa Barbara, California, to attend the U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Leadership Conference.
From February 15th to 17th, Cantrell will join other mayors from across the country in a series of meetings focused on working with mayors to bring city priorities and growth concepts directly to the White House. Attend.
Cantrell currently serves on the USCM Board of Directors and co-chairs the USCM Infrastructure Enforcement Task Force with Arlington, Texas Mayor Jim Ross, according to New Orleans city officials.
Other mayors in attendance were:
- Elizabeth Kautz, Mayor of Burnsville, Minnesota, Former USCM President
- Leirion Gaylor Baird, Mayor of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Mayor Scott Brook of Coral Springs, Florida
- San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria
- Christina Mullin, Mayor of Findlay, Ohio
Cantrell will be attending the meeting and will be on a panel discussing “Mayoral Mental Health Preparedness and Best Practices.” She will focus on the funding the city is providing to make mental health programs available in New Orleans.
City officials said the funding includes an unprecedented $10 million investment to provide medical and mental health support for young people and fund the city's mobile crisis intervention unit, which responds to behavioral health calls. It is said to be included.
“The City of New Orleans aims to continue its efforts to reduce the need for additional mental health supports by partnering with the medical community to address this critical issue head-on. USCM President Seeb, who also serves as the chair of the Health Task Force, will moderate the meeting,” New Orleans city officials said.
Once Cantrell returns, he will hold a unified city leadership press conference with the New Orleans Super Bowl Host Committee on Wednesday, February 21st, to continue coordinating Super Bowl LIX.
