Here are 5 things you need to know today
1. Children between the ages of 6 and 15 were killed in yesterday's shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs' victory parade at Union Station. One person was killed, a total of 21 people were injured, and three people were detained.
2. Today, in a Manhattan courtroom, the landscape of the 2024 presidential election could change. Donald Trump will learn whether his first criminal trial will derail his smooth path to the Republican nomination this spring. The case, which stems from President Trump's efforts to cover up an alleged affair with a porn star during the 2016 presidential campaign, is scheduled to go to trial on March 25. At Thursday's hearing, Judge Juan Melchan is expected to decide whether to follow that schedule. He may also postpone the trial or abandon the case altogether.
3. The United States has just received an update on Russia's nuclear capabilities, as it turns out Russia is working on an orbital nuclear missile defense system, which it claims is a serious threat to national security. It is not yet in orbit, but once there, it could seriously disrupt U.S. operations and control of our nation's nuclear arsenal.
4. Travis Kelce is dipping his toe in the pool of Hollywood movies. The Chiefs tight end has a new movie called “My Dead Friend Zoe,” which will have its world premiere at SXSW on the 9th of next month. My Dead Friend Zoe, directed by Kyle Hausman-Stokes, follows a female Afghanistan veteran who confronts her Vietnam veteran grandfather at her ancestral lake house. The film will be the first to be funded using President Biden's green energy tax credits.
5. Now that Valentine's Day is behind us, Flori-DUH brings us a story of love as solid as stone. It's probably not quite the Valentine's Day experience this Florida woman was expecting. Her ex-boyfriend allegedly took several sandhill crane statues from someone else's garden and placed them in “her” garden in an effort to make amends with her. Some people steal hearts… some people steal statues…
it's becoming a trend
