Prospective homebuyers believe they were told by a real estate agent that they and their fiancé were “top candidates” to win their dream home and were asked to unnecessarily “jump over hurdles”. But after a long purchasing process, all it took was a blunt phone call to dash their hopes.
Maddy Langshaw, 25, and her partner Ante Jungbluth Miocic, 30, have been house hunting for several weeks and are clearly “already confused” by the process. She asked her parents to view properties on the NSW Central Coast for her weekend and was told everything “looked great” and asked to make an offer. However, he had one pitfall.
“The real estate agent was like, 'Look, your offer is really good, but we need you to come and see the house…we really need that personal connection,'” Maddie says. told Yahoo News Australia.
The couple jumped in the car and drove from Sydney to attend in person. Langshaw said the real estate agent “kept selling him that dream while he was literally on the doorstep.”
Real estate agents are said to have emphasized the need for an 'emotional connection' to real estate.
Not only did this real estate agent share a story about the previous owner who recently passed away, but they also wrote a story about who they were and what plans they had for the owner's daughter. He is said to have asked the couple to do so. for property.
“He asked us to write a story about our vision for this house, how we planned to live there, why we wanted it… Strange request “We really wanted to hear it,” she said.
After spending an hour on the “story” and following the advice to make an offer “north” of a certain number, the couple submitted an offer on Sunday, but ended up waiting hours with no response. The real estate agent allegedly ignored calls when contacted for updates.
Couple “skids'' due to change in tone
The next day, the couple managed to get hold of a real estate agent, who informed them that they had lost out to a higher offer for the property.
“He called us that afternoon and just said, 'Sorry, we're out of a house.' He said the deal was done.” [by someone else]“We were completely skidding,” she said.
Despite wondering why they were not given the opportunity to make a counter-offer, the real estate agent was so candid that the couple allegedly decided they no longer wanted to have anything to do with him, and responded that the real estate agent The trader is said to have responded as follows: That's how it works,'' and I hung up.
Buying a home is a “burden” for Australians
Securing a property is becoming increasingly difficult due to rising house prices and increased competition, but this doesn't take into account how difficult it is to be in a position to buy in the current market.
The process of buying a home is not only expensive and time-consuming, it also places a huge emotional strain on everyone involved.
“This white picket fence, the Australian dream doesn't seem real. That was my immediate feeling on Monday,” Langshaw admitted. “It's very taxing…and quite discouraging, to be honest.”
She strongly believes that the real estate agent was “playing emotional games” in hopes of inflating the price of the property, but somewhere along the line it backfired and the couple are dealing with the aftermath. I decided to do it.
“We were really played.”
