GMKtec has launched its first Ryzen 8000 series “Hawk Point” APU-powered mini PC system with the new K8 Mini-PC system, the successor to the GMKtec NuvBox K6 Mini-PC.

The new GMKtec NuvBox K8 Mini-PC features a drop-in replacement APU from the K6 system, and inside the K6 is AMD's new Ryzen 7 8845HS APU as an upgrade to the Ryzen 7 7840HS. The new Ryzen 7 8845HS APU has the same 8-core, 16-thread CPU power, but with an integrated NPU for AI workloads.
AMD has increased the AI performance of its XDNA AI processor from 10 TOPS to 16 TOPS. It features 12 RDNA 3-based compute units with the same 8 cores and 16 threads of Zen 4 processing power clocked at up to 5.1 GHz and a boost clock. 2.7GHz.
GMKtec promises that the new K8 Mini-PC will feature two PCIe 4.0×4 2280 slots for M.2 SSD storage and support up to dual-channel DDR5-5600 memory. The Radeon 780M GPU integrated into the Ryzen 7 8845HS “Hawk Point” APU provides performance “close” to the mobile GPU form performance of NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1650 Ti.
The company boosts the TDP of the Ryzen 7 8845HS APU to 65W through an unlocked BIOS setting, delivering up to 65W TDP on the APU. GMKtec provides superior I/O connectivity with the K8 Mini-PC system through dual 2.5GbE enthusiast network connections supporting up to 40Gbps of bandwidth, DisplayPort, HDMI, and USB4 Type-C.
Now, let's talk about price. GMKtec offers the K7 system with the Ryzen 7 7840HS for around $579, while the new K8 system with the upgraded Ryzen 7 8845HS “Hawk Point” APU is listed for RMB 2499 in China. Up to about $350.
GMKtec is offering its new K8 Mini-PC system in a very limited time promotion in China. The first 50 customers will receive a game controller worth about $22, a barebones K8 system worth about $350, and a 32GB RAM + 1TB SSD option. It costs about $490.
A barebones K8 Mini-PC system with AR glasses costs around $570, while an enhanced 32GB RAM + 1TB SSD storage option for the system with AR glasses costs around $710.
AMD's new Ryzen 8040 series “Hawk Point” APUs have been in several Mini-PC systems so far, but they've been on the market for less than a month. Since the APU is not yet available, we are announcing the design and product early, and the Hawk Point APU is expected to be released during the first quarter of 2024.
