PARIS (AP) – French President Emmanuel Macron announced Friday that he will sign a bilateral security agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Paris as part of a trip that will also include Germany.
He did not provide specific details about the agreement, which is expected to be signed at the Elysée presidential palace.
President Macron said earlier this year that France was negotiating a model bilateral agreement. Ukraine recently reached an agreement with the UK, This covers a period of 10 years.
According to the statement, President Zelenskiy's visit to Paris will be his third since Russia's invasion of Ukraine nearly two years ago, following in February and May 2023.
The French presidential palace said the visit would be an opportunity for Macron to “reaffirm France's commitment to continue providing unwavering support to Ukraine and its people over the long term and together with all partners.”
The two leaders will discuss the situation on the front, Ukraine's military, economic and humanitarian needs, as well as negotiations on the country's efforts to join the European Union, which France fully supports, the statement said.
The Ukrainian President's Office announced on Thursday that President Zelenskiy will visit Germany and meet with Prime Minister Olaf Scholz on Friday.
