Saratoga Springs, NY (January 31, 2024) — Skidmore College's Frances Young Tan Educational Museum and Art Gallery features tours, screenings, workshops, and special guests including acclaimed multimedia artist Mickalen Thomas, composer and drummer Makaya McCraven, and artist Anthony The public is invited to the February program. -Tinh Bui and Teresa Xuan Bui.
All events are free and open to the public. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., with extended hours until 9 p.m. on Thursdays. Some events are held outside of regular gallery hours.

Winter/Miller Lecture by Mickalene Thomas
The seventh annual lecture features Mickalene Thomas, an acclaimed multidisciplinary artist praised for her captivating portraits of Black women.Her work is displayed at the exhibition Studio/Archive. Her appearance was at the invitation of Abigail Svetlik ’24, the 2023-24 Eleanor Linder Winter ’43 intern.

Beat Science: A Conversation with Makaya McCraven
Drummer and composer Makaya McRaven will be in discussion with musician and MDOCS instructor Angus McCullough ahead of McRaven's Zankel performance on February 17th. new york times He called McRaven “one of the best arguments for the vitality of jazz.” His latest album, In These Times, appears as a multi-temporal collection of works inspired by the artist's personal experiences as well as broader cultural struggles in a transnational working-class musical community. .

Carving the Sacred: Creating Law and Art
Rabbi Linda Motzkin, Skidmore College's former Jewish chaplain, will return to campus for a series of events on Jewish culture and sacred arts. Ms. Motzkin will give the Parlow Lecture, “Women and the Formation of the Law,” on Monday, February 26th at 5:30 p.m. Artist talk “Art and the Sacred” will be held on Wednesday, February 28th from 5:30 p.m. On Friday, March 1, at 1 p.m., she will lead a workshop, “Community Torah Project: Making Parchment from Local Deerskin.”

- Elevator Music 48: Loneliness, only the body This site-specific collaborative meditation on the experiences of three diaspora artists fuses the work of Antonius Tinh Bui, Teresa Xuan Bui, and Miz, and combines colloquial poetry, experimental cello, and traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai ( clothing), Southeast Asian household goods, Asian sweets, etc. Opens on February 10th.
