Southern Illinois University's enrollment for the spring 2024 semester increased by 4% compared to the previous year's spring 2023 semester. Undergraduate enrollment is expected to increase by approximately 4.39%, and graduate enrollment by approximately 3.48%.
The fall 2023 semester saw enrollment increase for the first time since 2014. This means the SIU is moving in the right direction. The 2023-2024 academic year proved to be a success for Chancellor Austin Lane.
“We had a great fall and are off to a great start to the spring semester. This latest news is a reminder of how the Saluki Nation envisions bold goals and works tirelessly to achieve them. It shows,” Lane said.
Approximately 10,525 students are currently continuing their studies as Salukis after some students graduated in December.
“As well as our efforts to bring students to SIU Carbondale to begin or continue their education, our efforts to retain students and help them stay in school are happening across the university.” Lane said.
The university has implemented the following programs to ease the financial burden of students attending SIU. Saluki Step Ahead, Saluki's Commitment, HEROES Program.
SIU is also launching the Say Yes Initiative, a tool that provides local high school students with eligibility to streamline the application process, in another effort to increase enrollment for the fall 2024 semester.
“This success is not magic. It is the result of the strategic and hard work of many Salukis: faculty, staff, alumni and friends, community members, and even students,” Lane said.
