Hello! My name is Eli and I'm a sophomore from Columbus, Ohio. My major is Environmental Science and Music, with minors in French and Dance.
What sports do you play in Lawrence?
I run cross country and track.
How did you decide to write the article? Laurentian?
I have always been an avid writer and wanted the opportunity to publish my work. I applied and was hired as a sportswriter during my first term at Lawrence.
Do you participate in any extracurricular activities at Lawrence?
I am co-president and treasurer of LU's Mock Trial Club and was recently voted co-president of next year's McCarthy Cooperative. He also works three jobs at my school.
Why did you choose Lawrence?
I originally became interested in Lawrence because of the science program and the conservatory. Having grown up next door to Ohio State University, the small, scenic campus was a new experience for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. After I met the cross country team, I knew I wanted to attend this school, so I made a deposit on the same day.
Do you have any advice for people who want to get involved in student journalism?
Don't be afraid to take risks and put your work out there! And remember, you can't grow as a writer without feedback, collaboration, and exposure to different perspectives.
Do you have any advice for people who want to play sports in college?
Contact the coach, set up a call, and ask questions about the program and your place within it. Know your worth as an athlete. Coaches are looking for more than just the time and content that comes with a sport. We're looking for great leaders and teammates who can build a positive, hard-working team culture.
What is your favorite sport or team?
As an Ohioan, I'm a lifelong Buckeyes fan and enjoy playing college football (I wanted to be a football player in middle school, but cross country was actually my third choice). I also love watching professional running, especially the professional marathon scene.
