Through Feb. 15, Southern Potomac Naval Support Activities in Dahlgren and Indian Head, Maryland, will conduct safety training as part of Exercise Citadel Shield Solid Curtain 2024.
The annual two-part exercise does not address any specific threat, but is aimed at increasing preparedness and thwarting potential security threats, according to a news release.
The exercise will be conducted by the commanders of U.S. Fleet Forces Command and Naval Facilities Command and will be conducted at all naval installations in the continental United States. It is designed to enhance the training and readiness of Navy security personnel and better prepare Department of the Navy personnel for potential situations involving protection of forces.
“These trainings allow us to assess and strengthen their capabilities and prepare them to meet any security challenge,” said Capt. David Wilson, commander of Naval Support Activity Southern Potomac. said.

During the exercise, Dahlgren and Indian Head personnel may notice an increased presence of security forces, emergency traffic, temporary traffic delays and gate closures.
Personnel should avoid marked training areas. If you encounter a training exercise in progress, you must proceed with caution and follow all instructions from training team members wearing labeled safety vests.
