It's no secret that the job of a first responder is never easy.
Taking calls can mean long periods of time away from family, which can lead to PTSD. But hundreds of men and women respond to these calls every day in Cumberland County.
Each week, The Sentinel's Sirens for Service feature aims to show the faces of these people and share their stories.
This series focuses on why they became first responders, highlights specific calls from the service that affected them, and reminds them why they do what they do. Masu.

A: I have [been] My nephews played Little League baseball for 40 years and worked for the fire department, and one day they came to me and asked, “We need help with the Cascades.'' I did. So I've been there ever since.
Q: Can you describe a call that affected you? What was that call like and why did it affect you?
A: They all influence me. So my main purpose is to protect and save, but as you know, I can't pinpoint one phone. The call for people to come out alive is the best thing overall. You can always replace buildings, but you can't replace people.
