SMITHTOWN, N.Y. — Chops, a 18-year-old to 2-year-old male German shepherd, has been named the Smithtown Animal Shelter's “Pet of the Week.”
“Chops came to us with a tough start in life, but we worked with the animal shelter staff and trainers to address his trust issues and we couldn't be more pleased with his progress. ” Shelter wrote. “Once the team gained Chops' trust, they discovered that he was a very good boy, eager to please, and full of love to give. He loved to learn and play. And a very intelligent gentleman.”
If you are interested in meeting Chops, please call ahead to reserve an hour to properly interact with Chops in a homely setting such as the shelter's meet-and-greet room, dog park, or dog walking trail. please. Meet and greets and socializing with your family pet in your home are also welcomed and an integral part of the adoption process.
The evacuation center is open to the public, but people are asked to make reservations by phone in advance.
Current business hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with reservations required on Sunday and Wednesday nights.

Smithtown Animal Shelter's main concern is finding the perfect home for each animal. The animal care staff at Smithtown Animal Shelter do everything they can to help both the rescued and the rescued. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member to the shelter or set up a meet-up at your home so that the potential new addition can meet other family members. You can also see how they interact with their pets, or family members. . Allow at least an hour to meet your potential new family member.
The shelter is also looking for volunteer foster parents. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens, and dogs in their homes. Some animals require as little as two weeks of care, while others require long-term care. Potential foster parents are not required to have other pets or young children in the home.
