Action News Jax spoke with the woman who called 9-1-1. She said the man who owned the home, along with other neighbors, was transported to the Gainesville burn unit on Monday.
9-1-1 Operator: “Okay. Can you see the smoke flames?”
Now, the 9-1-1 caller said she saw him run back into the house when she told him her dog was still inside.
Neighbor: “There's black smoke coming out of the garage.
“In just a few minutes, it got thicker and darker and darker and darker. Scary.”
Emily Thibault said the rapidly spreading smoke was a frightening sight. So she called her 9-1-1.
“My husband and I and our baby were driving to our neighborhood, and as we were coming home from a friend's house, my husband saw smoke and said it was actually a JFRD firefighter and said, 'Call 9-1-1. Please, that's for sure.'' It's a house fire,'' Thibault said.
Around 4 p.m. Sunday, the Jacksonville Fire Department responded to a house fire on Ashglen Drive.
Thibault said her husband tried to get her to come out by banging on a neighbor's door.
