Features of SCTC Metal Processing Program
The Simpson County Technical Center (SCTC) is pleased to feature the Metalworking Program, a two-year program designed to introduce students to the diverse world of metalworking.
Students enrolled in SCTC's metal fabrication program learn basic machining and metal fabrication processes, as well as basic welding trades. At SCTC, students gain hands-on experience in our on-campus shop, which is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and recreates an industrial environment. The purpose of the metalworking course is to prepare students to continue their studies in a post-secondary metals program (welding or machine tool operation) or to begin entry-level work in a metals trade .
Students in this program earn two credits toward graduation, as well as a National Center for Construction Education and Research certification. This means that our credential holders are highly trained, knowledgeable, and qualified to perform the job anywhere in the country. Students also have the opportunity to earn a certification from the National Institute of Metalworking Skills that certifies advanced manufacturing techniques. It shows dedication to the profession, emphasizes education and training, and recommends competency as a machinist or specialist.
In this photo, students watch as SCTC metalworking instructor Kirk Sullivan explains advanced welding techniques.
