milwaukee – A person has been charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide following a Jan. 29 stabbing at Ascension Columbia St. Mary's Hospital in Milwaukee.
Edgar Joel Padilla, 18, is accused of stabbing a security guard inside the hospital.
According to a criminal complaint, Milwaukee police officers responded to the hospital just after 6 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 29, and saw Edgar Padilla holding a knife and pointing it at several security guards.

Padilla threw the knife after one of the officers identified himself as a police officer who pulled out a gun. As he was handcuffed, he taunted the guard, saying, “I'm going to stab you (expletive) again!”
While being taken out of the hospital, he yelled, “He deserves it! I wish he was (expletive) dead! I just caught a (expletive) body!” is. As he was being put back into the squad car, he said, “I hope he bleeds out of that (expletive). Leave it to God, if he's not dead, I… I’m coming back to kill his (expletive)” again! Stick that knife deep into the back of his head! (Expletive)! ”
Milwaukee police detectives interviewed the victim's security guard at the emergency room. He had stab wounds to his head and upper right back. He explained that he was dispatched to the Prospect Medical Commons building between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. to respond to complaints of a “trouble subject” regarding Padilla. He told Padilla he could not roam the property and asked him to leave. Padilla left but returned around 6 a.m., police said. He confronted Padilla, who allegedly threatened to “stab him to death.” He told Padilla to go to the waiting room if he needed treatment.

He then went to the bathroom and as he turned his back to him, Padilla came up from behind and stabbed him. The victim managed to grab Padilla from the bathroom. He then tried to close the door while Padilla stabbed him with a knife. The victim saw Padilla drop the knife and exited the bathroom. The victim said Padilla picked up a knife and stabbed him in the head and back. The victim had several staples attached to his head and required stitches in his back.
Milwaukee police officers interviewed another security guard who witnessed the incident. The security guard said he was called to help remove Padilla from the premises. He explained that Padilla had previously been asked to leave the premises, but he had returned. He saw Padilla trying to stab his partner. He told Padilla to “calm down,” and Padilla responded, “(expletive) you,” and he threatened to stab him too. Padilla advanced toward him, but stopped when police arrived with guns drawn.
Hospital patients also witnessed the incident. The patient heard screams and saw Padilla holding a knife. The patient said Padilla followed the security guard down her hallway. The patient witnessed him trying to close Padilla's bathroom door. However, he forced his way into the bathroom and stabbed the guard several times.
Milwaukee police detectives interviewed Padilla after going through his Miranda rights. Padilla said she was homeless and tried to sleep in the hospital parking lot. But he couldn't sleep because he wanted to commit suicide. He said a security guard woke him up and “made him upset.” He claims he and other security guards made fun of him. After Padilla saw the security guard in the emergency room, he pulled a knife from his bag. Padilla admitted he was waiting for an opportunity to stab the security guard. The suspect went to the bathroom to stab the guard, and then he bragged that he “stabbed the (expletive) guard” and could have killed him, police said.
Edgar Padilla is charged with one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide with the use of a dangerous weapon. He is being held on $50,000 bail and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Thursday, February 8th.
