Southwest Airlines' bright interiors don't just look good.
Starting next year, the new aircraft will be equipped with some practical benefits for passengers.
“This design is based on extensive research encompassing customer and employee perceptions of color, comfort and overall in-car experience,” Southwest Airlines said in a press release Friday.
The Texas-based airline has partnered with design firm Tangerine on a “refresh” for new aircraft deliveries starting next year.
Meanwhile, Southwest continues to update its existing fleet with previously announced changes for 2022.
Here are three things Southwest Airlines customers can expect on their upcoming flights.
1. New seats
Southwest's new aircraft will be equipped with premium seats made by RECARO, the same company known for its motorsports racing and gaming seats, as well as child car seats and aircraft seats.
“The new RECARO seat features multiple adjustable headrest cushions for enhanced head and neck support, and an intuitively designed seat that maximizes seat width and overall support while delivering ultimate comfort. included,” Southwest said.
2. personal electronics holder
No more awkwardly lifting your smartphone or leaning your tablet against the seat tray during flight.
The new RECARO seat is equipped with a personal electronic device holder that allows you to watch free entertainment available on Southwest Airlines hands-free.
3. Personal power port and large overhead storage shelf
Since last year, all of Southwest Airlines' new Boeing 737 Max aircraft have been delivered with in-seat USB-A and USB-C power ports and large overhead bins for luggage.
The company's existing Max 8 and Boeing 737-800 aircraft also have charging ports and larger containers. Southwest Airlines expects the process to be completed “within the next few years.”
