ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—Physicians to Women (PTWO) has notified some of its clients of a security breach related to their personal information.
PTOW says it was notified of suspicious activity within its network on April 4, 2023. In response, we immediately took steps to secure our systems and, with the assistance of third-party computer forensics experts, began an investigation into the nature and scope of the incident. .
The investigation revealed that the fraudulent account accessed certain systems within PTWO's network and retrieved certain files from these systems. The agency identified the affected files and worked with a data review vendor to examine the affected files and determine the type of information contained and the parties involved in the breach.
Data review revealed that the files contained patient names, social security numbers, and personal medical/health information. Although it has not been possible to confirm whether the information was viewed by an unauthorized account, PTWO does not want to rule out that possibility.
PTWO says it has provided credit monitoring for one year as a precaution and has introduced additional security measures to further protect against future incidents. We also notified federal law enforcement agencies and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services about the security breach.
PTWO takes this incident very seriously. It states that patient confidentiality, privacy and security are among its top priorities and that strict security measures are in place to protect personal information.
