(Security Widefield, Colo.) — The deputy and police officer involved in an overnight shooting in Security Widefield on January 27th has been identified by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO).
EPSO lieutenants and Fountain Police Department (FPD) officers initially responded to a report from an EPSO lieutenant that a man was walking south on Security Boulevard with a gun at approximately 12:38 a.m. on Saturday, January 27. I responded.
Law enforcement responded and located the suspect near the intersection of Security Boulevard and Crawford Avenue in Security Widefield, just east of US 85/87.
CSPD said officers and officers instructed the suspect to drop the gun, but the suspect ignored commands. The suspect then allegedly pointed a gun at law enforcement, and an EPSO deputy and FPD officer fired at least one shot at the suspect. Life-saving medical treatment was provided to the suspect, but he later died at the hospital.
The deputies and officers involved have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy and have been identified by EPSO.

The CSPD Violent Crimes and Homicide Unit continues to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
