The Berrien County Historical Society is taking steps to increase security after thefts occurred from its Berrien Springs property last year.
In December, we reported that someone stole money from the association's cash register and donation box on two separate occasions.
Chief Rhiannon Sizon told the Berrien County Commission on Thursday that the community has come together and worked together after the incident.
“Members of Berrien Springs-Eau Claire Rotary and Lakeshore Rotary donated more than $800 to our organization to help recoup these costs,” Sizon said. “So we would like to publicly thank them.”
Sizon said donations at the History Center on Courthouse Square will now be safer.
“We'll be working with the county to see if they can help us upgrade the warnings to be a little more modern for the 21st century. And we plan to install the cameras in the first two weeks of February. Therefore, your donation is safe with us.”
It has to be broken from the wall. If you try to steal my donation box again.
Sison said it was unlikely the theft case would be solved because so many people came to the center and the donation boxes had too many different fingerprints.
She said that while the majority of guests are fine, there are always a few bad apples.
