In this episode of SecurityANGLE, Our series focuses on cybersecurity in general, Join engineer, analyst, and CUBE Collective community member Joe Peterson as he shares his insights on the top six cloud security trends we're tracking in 2024.
Global cloud spending increases, security strategy becomes paramount
According to Security Today, global cloud spending is expected to increase by more than 20% in 2024 as more organizations adopt a cloud-first approach. As assets increasingly migrate to hybrid and multi-cloud environments, security strategies are expected to become a top priority as threat actors continue to seek exploitable vulnerabilities across interconnected cloud deployments. As a side note, if you're interested in his IT spending outlook for 2024, check out my colleague Dave Vellante's latest analysis on this topic, using the latest research from Enterprise Technology Research.
Why are cloud security trends important to you? Threat actors aren't staying silent. Enterprises are rapidly adapting as organizations adopt a cloud-first approach, and organizations are rapidly adapting to thwart cyber threats, especially those targeting attractive new cloud technologies such as container-based and serverless resources. , you should be prepared to double down on your data protection and cloud security strategies.
As revealed on this week's show, here are six cloud security trends that security and cloud security teams need to know about in this episode.
— Zero Trust Model is rapidly gaining traction, and for good reason.
Implementing AI and ML in the cloud is key. Hyperscalers have begun to provide guidance to end users on securing AI, and we expect that to continue.
— Cybersecurity Mesh Architecture (CSMA) is a rapidly growing cyber defense strategy that independently protects devices with their own perimeter (firewall/network protection tools). CMSA helps provide layered defense against cyber threats, making it more difficult for attackers to penetrate your organization's network.
— Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) It continues to spread rapidly.
— Automating DevSecOps It can significantly reduce the number of errors that occur when performing security analysis manually.
— Cloud-native protection platform (CNAPP) is becoming increasingly popular (which is one of the reasons for acquisitions such as SentinelOne's recent acquisition of PingSafe), and we expect interest and adoption of CNAPP to continue to grow.
