Visit the County, Prince Edward County's tourism promotion program, has unveiled its plans for 2024.
During Thursday's Committee of the Whole meeting, Visit the County Board Chair Rebecca McKenzie represented councilors and outlined Visit the County's plans and priorities for the coming year.
MacKenzie's presentation highlighted how her organization leverages digital marketing to attract a wider audience to vacations in the county. Some of their efforts next year will target international tourism, inviting New York and Vermont residents to visit by car.
Visit the County is also preparing a new website to provide information and introductions to potential visitors about attractions and accommodations in the county to encourage longer stays and more visitor spending. doing.
The focus on digital marketing in 2024 has come under criticism from City Councilor Roy Pennell, who said a lack of print media such as brochures is particularly limiting for tourists passing through nearby municipalities such as Belleville and Quinte West. He suggested that this may be having a negative impact on efforts to attract foreign investors.
“I certainly appreciate everything you're doing. But I still believe there's a market that's being missed because that material isn't available,” Councilman Pennell said.
Mr McKenzie assured Parliament that digital marketing materials are more cost-effective than investing in and distributing printed materials, can reach a wider audience and attract more tourists.
The commission has accepted the representation but has not taken any action at this time.
