WASHINGTON (WJHL) – Three Virginia lawmakers said Wednesday they are closely monitoring the situation after a congressional committee chair warned of a “grave national security threat.”
Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said the committee had released information to all members “regarding significant national security threats” and urged the Biden administration to ” “I called on Congress and the administration to declassify this information to protect our national security.” And our allies can openly discuss the actions needed to respond to this threat. ”
No details were provided about the nature of the threat, but House Speaker Mike Johnson said there was no cause for alarm. ABC News and Politico reported that Turner's warning was related to Russia's production of anti-satellite nuclear weapons.
Virginia Sen. Mark Warner, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said in a statement that his committee is monitoring the situation and working with the administration on a response.
“The Senate Intelligence Committee is aware of the matter and has been following this matter closely from the beginning. We continue to take this matter seriously and are in discussions with the administration regarding an appropriate response. In the meantime, we must be cautious about potentially disclosing sources or methods that could be key to maintaining a wide range of U.S. options for action.”

Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine said in a statement to News Channel 11 that he is monitoring the situation and said the potential threat from Russia is why the United States needs to remain a NATO member. .
“As with any national security threat, I will closely monitor the situation and work with my colleagues and administration officials to protect the safety of the American people.” If the reports are true, this situation will serve as yet another reminder of why attacks on NATO by Donald Trump and other Republicans will go unchecked. I am proud that the Senate passed this bipartisan bill to prevent us from leaving, and we will continue to work to protect our alliance from President Putin and other threats.”
