Veteran financial attorney Melissa Messina has returned to Miles & Stockbridge as a principal in the Baltimore, Maryland, office. She focuses on senior living and life planning communities.
Messina previously worked as a financial advisor and investment banker at HJ Sims, counseling nonprofit life plan communities, assisted living facilities, and skilled nursing facilities. She advised senior community management teams and boards on capital and strategic planning issues.

“Melissa brings new experience in advanced issues that will benefit our clients in the areas of senior living, health care, real estate, tax increment financing, public finance and commercial finance,” he said in a statement. .
Messina also advises nonprofit organizations, health care organizations, and educational institutions on real estate and economic development matters.
In public finance, he engages in land-based infrastructure transactions such as tax increment financing, public-private partnerships, transit-oriented developments, and other tax-exempt bond financings.
Messina began as a summer associate at Miles & Stockbridge in 2004 and spent more than 12 years with the firm.
