BALTIMORE — Baltimore County has developed a new tool to help reunite lost pets with their owners.
The county currently has pet testing stations.
If you want to reunite your pet with its owner, there are five locations you can go to in Baltimore County.
Our locations are in Essex, Dundalk, Parkville, Catonsville and Reisterstown.
The purpose of this tool is to reduce the burden on local animal shelters.
Microchip scanners are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Anyone who finds a lost pet can bring it to a scanning station. Your pet can be scanned to see if it has a microchip.
If your pet is microchipped, the scanner can find the chip number on the screen.
Once you see your chip number, you can post that information on your website.
The Company will notify pet owners that you have a pet.
“It's a win-win for everyone. And we're very proud that we're the first institution in Maryland to be able to establish something like this. Hopefully, others will do the same.” We hope so,” said Dr. Gregory Branch, director of the Baltimore County Department of Health and Human Services.
By law, if you find a lost pet, you must submit an Animal Found Report to the Baltimore County Animal Shelter within 24 hours. Pets can also be reunited with their owners within 72 hours. If the pet cannot be reunited within 72 hours, the pet must be surrendered to a shelter.
If you find your pet outside of Baltimore County, you can still take it to any location within the county.
It's also important to be careful if an animal appears sick or injured, and experts say it's best to take the animal to a shelter.
