It wouldn't be a major international sporting event if someone didn't play the “donkey” role. Super Bowl 58 was no exception, and not one, but two of them decided that the big game's global platform would be a great stage for prancing around nearly naked in public.
The concept of streaking first became popular in the 1970s. Somewhere on a college campus, some students decided it was a good idea to run naked through the streets. For some reason, this strange ritual became popular, and its popularity also gave rise to popular recordings of the time.
That was back then, and more than 50 years later, the desire among attention seekers and social media influencers to earn their 15 minutes of fame is greater than ever. The payoff was also more lucrative than ever before.
But for those hosting events like the Super Bowl, having fans on the field is never a good thing. They pose risks to the players and themselves. And you can tell by how quickly security reacts that they aren't proactive about trespassing during games.
Last night there were two streakers on the field at the same time. I don't know if this was a coordinated event or if both parties simply saw an opportunity and went for it. Either way, it wasn't a good outcome for either individual.
Both men were identified and arrested by Las Vegas police. The men were charged with prohibiting contact at the sports day. The charge is a misdemeanor. Both suspects posted bail and are scheduled to appear before a judge in April of this year.
