Every year, fans look forward to the Super Bowl ads as much as the game itself, and this year's Super Bowl LVIII featured WWE legend “Stone Cold” Steve Austin in an ad.
Austin appeared in an advertisement by the Japanese car company Kawasaki promoting its “Ridge” side-by-side truck. The “Texas Rattlesnake” plays a mullet in the ad, which plays a central role in the ad's theme, which was captioned with “Business in the front, party in the back.” In a quirky twist, every animal and person in the path of the truck ended up carrying a mullet as it passed.
The WWE Hall of Famer teased that the ad would air during the Super Bowl days before the event. He posted a photo of himself with a mullet and wearing his trademark Austin shirt emblazoned with the numbers 2:11, the Super Bowl date.
New WWE star Jade Cargill is another professional wrestler who appeared in a Super Bowl ad this year, and a Mountain Dew ad featuring actress Aubrey Plaza also aired during commercial breaks. In the ad, the former AEW star jumped off the top rope and hit the actress with a frog splash.
WWE also decided to capitalize on the popularity of the Super Bowl by releasing a teaser trailer for this year's WrestleMania featuring Roman Reigns, The Rock, Seth Rollins, and Cody Rhodes. The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl this Sunday by defeating the San Francisco 49ers 25-22.
