Mishkenot Hauma, one of Jerusalem's new neighborhoods, is located in the former Foreign Ministry complex near Jerusalem's western entrance.
Characterized by sophisticated modern architecture and a palpable atmosphere of political and national importance, this district was established primarily to house new government offices and institutions nearby. Featuring nearly 700 modern, spacious units, including deluxe penthouses, on approximately 50 acres, Mishkenot-Hauma was finally completed in the mid-2010s and is a progressive neighborhood that has grown and modernized as a cosmopolitan city. It expresses Jerusalem's intention to city.
National agency hub
The area of Mishkenot Hauma also includes Kiryat Hareom (national district). This is the official name of the complex that includes Kiryat Hamemshala (Government District) and Binyeney Hauma (International Convention Center, ICC). The plan will include most government and national institutions, including the Bank of Israel, the Bloomfield Science Museum, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Finance, the Prime Minister's Office, the Supreme Court, and the National Library.
The future building will also house the National Archives and the National Museum, as well as the national headquarters of the Israel Police and the State Audit Office.
A growing neighborhood
Mishkenot Hauma's population is a mix of young and old, ultra-Orthodox and non-religious, as well as diplomats, dignitaries, and young Israeli families. While this neighborhood may lack some of the amenities found in other, more established areas of Jerusalem, it still manages to offer its residents.
“Over the years, this area has become like its own little city,” said Keshet, a local resident. in jerusalem. “There is a cafe, two supermarkets, a doctor's, dentist's and other offices. There is also underground parking for cars.
“What's special about Mishkenot Hauma is that most apartments in Jerusalem in such a great location tend to be old and run-down, but these buildings are new and modern.”
Convenience in all directions
What Mishkenot Hauma lacks in history, it makes up for in location. Located between the government district and the Givat Ram-Nahlaot border, this area is within walking distance of Cinema City and the huge Sacher Park. Just down the road is the famous Mahane Yehuda market and city center, filled with lively food stalls.
On the other side, Mishkenot Hauma is located right next to the new Yitzhak Navon train station, the central bus station, and Highway 1, which connects to Tel Aviv.
“I have lived in Mishkenot Hauma for the past three years,” Keshet said. “In my opinion, the location is one of the best features of this hotel. It's close to everything in the center of Jerusalem, and the central bus station, light rail, and intercity rail stations are 2 minutes away. It’s incredibly easy to get anywhere in the city or the countryside.”
In the ever-evolving mosaic of Jerusalem's neighborhoods, Mishkenot Hauma represents both the city's rich history and its role as a symbol of Jerusalem's future urban sophistication and what Israel's capital wants to be known for. I am fulfilling my role. ■
