Naval Base Coronado will conduct the training from February 12th to 16th. Travelers should be prepared for traffic delays.
The exercise is part of the U.S. Navy's annual Citadel Shield Solid Curtain exercise, which began Feb. 5 and is being conducted at bases across the country. During the exercise, Navy personnel simulate various security threat scenarios to test and improve their responses.
As a result, residents may see and hear increased security activity.
The Pentagon says the training is not a response to a specific threat, but rather regular training for practical experience and learning.
Other regional naval bases are also participating in the exercise, so delays are expected.
These delays may impact visitors to the base, including Navy Exchange and commissary shoppers, Family Services customers, and individuals with medical clinic appointments. Patients, visitors and hospital staff at Naval Medical Center San Diego may also experience significant delays and increased traffic. We encourage patients to arrive at least 45 minutes early for their scheduled appointment.
