We were lucky enough to host a beautiful bridal lunch at Hacienda San Angel for our daughter Cody, who wed in Puerto Vallarta last October. It was truly dreamy and one of the highlights of the entire wedding weekend.

During the 1960s, several celebrities were spending time in Puerto Vallarta. Among them was Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco. Roger Moore, the gentle 007 James Bond. John Huston, acclaimed film director. Popular movie stars Ava Gardener, Elizabeth Taylor, and Richard Burton to name a few.
So what led Puerto Vallarta to become this new vacation hotspot in the 1960s? We celebrate achievements. The public and tabloids also developed great interest and intrigue in the new “It” couple, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, who were spending much of their time around this exotic city on the Pacific coast. This legendary Hollywood couple, their public romance, and the picturesque surroundings of Puerto Vallarta definitely heightened the appeal of their famous love story.
More than a decade later, Richard Burton purchased the Hacienda's main villa as a Valentine's Day gift to his then-wife Susan. His ex-wife Elizabeth Taylor had a house a few blocks down the street. The Bartons named their home “Casa Versus.”
In 1990, entrepreneur Janice Chatterton purchased Casa Versus from Susan Burton for use as a vacation home. After losing his son, Chatterton channeled his grief into developing a love of antiques and rescuing animals. Through renovations, the purchase of surrounding villas, and innovations, Casa Bursas evolved into Casa San Ángel, and finally, in 2003, Hacienda San Ángel. Currently, this hotel is one of the world's top luxury boutique hotels.
