Many Americans often look for roommates who can help cover their monthly living expenses in expensive cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York.
Zillow wants to help you with this process.
On Thursday, the real estate marketplace company announced that users can now search for individual room listings.
“We know finding the right place to call home is not one-size-fits-all,” Michael Sherman, vice president of Zillow Rentals, said in a statement.
“By introducing room listings, we are creating a robust marketplace of options that truly reflects the diverse needs of renters. We are creating rooms, homes, apartments and more at the click of a button. We are committed to providing a platform that makes it easy to search for.
The Zillow app now has a “Room” filter in the “Home Type” drop-down menu. Users can search for single-family rentals, condos, or townhomes based on budget, lifestyle, and preferred location.
This feature is also available to homeowners and landlords who want to rent a room.
According to U.S. Census data, there were 25.5 million joint households in the United States in 2019, accounting for 19.8% of all households nationwide. Researchers found that in 2019, approximately 81.2 million adults, or about one-third of all adults over the age of 18, lived in shared households.
Since then, housing prices have soared. Zillow's report found that the median rent price in the United States is $1,957 for him, and that he needs an income of $79,264 for a renter to comfortably pay rent.
Median apartment rents in popular California cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego range from $2,138 to $2,682, according to Zillow.
