Sharon Hamm jokes with her colleagues that it only took her 37 years to realize her musical dreams.
About six months ago, a song released by Hamm's indie music group Dragon In 3 was featured in the online video game Fortnite. Dragon in 3, known for her 80's pop sound, is also a member of Ham, Someone Still Loves Her, Her Brother Philip, her Dickie, Boris, her Yeltsin, Dickie's wife Grace, and her Bentley. It has been constructed.
The band's song “I'll Be Right Over” was released on Fortnite on August 7, 2023. Hamm, 37, remembers vividly when he learned the news.
“I was in between patients at another nursing station and I got a text message from Philip…I thought, 'What? This is amazing! It's already up and running!'” said Hamm, an occupational therapist at Mercy Hospital. he said. “I had a freaking moment at the nursing station, and my co-workers were like, 'What's going on? We've never seen you so full of life.'” And they were like, 'Oh my God. , my song just appeared on Fortnite! ” I thought. ”
Ham and Dicky listen to Fortnite Radio Station, a feature that allows players to listen to music while driving a vehicle, although it's unclear how long “I'll Be Right Over” will be available in-game. I know it can be done. game.
Released in 2017, “Fortnite” is a free online video game available in six different game modes, all of which follow the same general gameplay. “Fortnite” quickly took the internet by storm with its catchy dance moves, gaining popularity among players.
Write “I'll be right away”
Hamm was inspired to write “I'll Be Right Over” when she and her husband, Brad Hamm, moved into a new home at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We had a big, traditional front porch, so we spent a lot of time outside on the porch. That's where the lyrics for this song came from. I was just spending time with my husband on the porch.” said Ham.
“I'll Be Right Over” begins with the lyrics, “Leave it on the front porch and I'll pick it up. The birds won't hurt you, but they won't shut up.” Hamm said these lyrics are a direct reflection of the relationship she and Brad had with the birds in their new home.
“There were some birds that wanted to build a nest on our balcony, but my husband didn't like it because it made a mess, so when he took the nest away, the birds got angry and threw the pieces of the nest in front of the house.'' He threw it at me. It’s the door,” Hamm said. “Every morning I woke up, there were pieces of the nest all over my front door.”
Ham lives in Springfield, while Dickey lives in Kansas City. To create the song, his brother and sister duo recorded in the sunroom of Hamm's home in Springfield. Dickey then put the final touches on the song and sent it to the band's label, American Landmat Records, an independent label based in Mystic, Connecticut.
Regarding the song being featured on Fortnite, Dickey said that American Landmat Records brought together Dragon Inn 3 and Bank Robber Music. Bank Robber Music is a New York music licensing company that helps bands get their songs used in movies, TV shows and video games. In June 2023, Dickey received a call “out of the blue” stating that Fortnite was interested in licensing “I'll Be Right Over.”
“Sharon is one of my favorite songwriters and I'm excited to have her songs heard by even more people,” Dickey said. “Fortnite is popular in my third-grade class, so I was excited for my son Davey. But he never told his classmates he didn't believe it.”
Dickie told the News-Leader that the band is busy working on new music. What's your next goal? “Minecraft” or Mario, he said.
