After finishing the 2024 recruiting cycle in the top 10 class in the nation, oklahoma is already working at a similar pace with the class of 2025.
As of Feb. 12, the Sooners already have 10 commits. The best may be yet to come. Brent Venables and a staff that is trending to land multiple elite prospects, including a five-star linebacker in Galveston (Texas) Bowl. Jonah Williams.
13th overall prospect and 2nd LB in the league. On3 industry ranking I recently returned to Norman for a Junior Day visit in January. Shortly after, University of Oklahoma recruiter Josh McCuistion registered his pick. On3 Adoption Prediction Machine (RPM) The Sooners favored the 6-foot-3, 200-pounder.
There are multiple reasons why OU thought he was a top choice for one of the best recruits in the Lone Star State. First of all, Williams is looking at the opportunity to be a two-sport athlete, which is by no means a negative for the Sooners staff.
“I think Jonah has seen success with some things that the University of Oklahoma has had an advantage on. First of all, he has a big-time baseball background, and the University of Oklahoma has a lot of athletes like that. He has done a good job.” McCuistion spoke on “The Inside Scoop”.
Williams will soon be considered a safety, not a linebacker.
Although the five-star player is listed as a linebacker, Williams is considered a safety for the Sooners. Starting as a DB can differentiate new SEC programs from other candidates.
“I think you see Oklahoma working well there…I think Jonah has bought into that. Also, a lot of schools have talked to Jonah about linebackers early on, and obviously On3 is also interested in him. “Oklahoma is very adamant they want him as a safety, and that's where I see him starting,” McCuistion said.
“He’s a big player and could be a linebacker in any plan, but I think they’re honest about giving him that opportunity and I think that’s what he wants to start. .”
Ohio State and Texas A&M also have Williams on campus for the 2024 season. Texas and Oregon are also thought to influence his recruitment before he puts pen to paper. It's still early in the 2025 cycle, but the Sooners appear to be in good position to compete for a commitment from another elite prospect.
